Atheists Challenge Nativity Display
After Bethel's new Nativity was dedicated on November 16, the Washington-based American Atheists Legal Center sent a letter to the Board of Selectmen objecting to the display, claiming that their alternate display request had been unfairly denied and demanding that the Nativity display be removed from Town property.

Bethel First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker has been quoted as saying that other displays were welcome, but that the atheist group had not provided the required insurance documentation and other elements.

A Board of Selectmen meeting has been called for Monday, November 26 at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Center to discuss creation of updated guidelines for such displays.
