Selectmen allow banner

In a 2-1 vote along party lines, the Bethel Selectmen voted on Tuesday, December 4 to allow the atheist banner requested by Bethel resident James Naddeo to be displayed on P.T. Barnum Square.

In anticipation of a large audience, the meeting was moved to the MultiPurpose Room in the Municipal Center.

After hearing a number of public comments on both sides of the issue, the Selectmen voted to allow the 4 foot tall by 8 foot wide banner to be displayed at the side of the Square.

The banner had not been erected as of press time.
