Roughly 70 Bethel residents attended the public hearing on the proposed 2019-2020 budget on Tuesday, March 19, where they had the opportunity to address members of the Board of Finance, the Board of Selectmen and The School Board.
Several speakers asked to add funding for the turf track, and the need for repaired band uniforms was also discussed.
Several speakers also asked that the overall budget be reduced rather than increased, and one speaker raised the issue of out-of-district students illegally attending Bethel schools with no reimbursement.
Board of Finance Chair Robert Manfreda indicated that the board would meet the following day to discuss the public input. At that meeting, the Board of Finance adopted revised recommendations that reduce the proposed budget from $78,546,110 to $78,376,516, or $3,723,992 over current budget, a 4.99% increase over last year.
