National Group Demands
Non-Resident Access
To Displays In Bethel
Demand Appears To Align With Satanic Group Call
For Applications From Non-Bethel Residents To Eliminate Nativity

On October 9th, the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent a letter to Bethel First Selectman Knickerbocker demanding that the Town allow applications from non-Bethel residents for the holiday displays on P.T. Barnum Square. Mr. Knickerbocker shared the letter at the December 26th special Board of Selectmen meeting.

Bethel Town policy, adopted after the work of the Religious Display Committee requires that applications for displays be made by Bethel residents or organizations located in Bethel.

The FFRF, which states that it's objective is to promote the constitutional principle of separation of state and church, and to educate the public on matters relating to nontheism has spearheaded the removal or Nativity displays on public property as well as addition of non-traditional displays. The organization website features a photo of their staff under a sign that says "Imagine No Religion."
