Governor Increases Covid Fines From $500 to $10,000 For Businesses

On Tuesday, November 24th, Governor Lamont issued a new executive order increasing fines on CT businesses that do not comply with his orders regarding doing business during the Covid declared health emergency and civil preparedness emergency. The fines are increased, as of 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26, from $500 to $10,000. Local authorities, including the Health Department and Police Department are authorized to issue these fines, as are state health authorities. These fines can only be appealed through the Health Department.

Approved Covid safety signs and social distancing floor markers at check out are required. Approved signage can found at https://portal.ct.gov/DECD/Content/Coronavirus-Business-Recovery/COVID-19-Signage-for-Download

Facemasks covering nose and mouth are required of all employees and all customers. A daily health check for all employees is required (see the business category link below for specifics).

Retail businesses are limited to 50% of posted capacity, must have barriers at check out and hand sanitizer available at the entrance.

Restaurants are restricted to 50% of posted capacity and no more than 8 people per table and must stop service at 9:30 p.m. and close by 10 p.m.
